Rangers Down Angels

The Texas Rangers took advantage of a pair of 9th inning runs to down the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 on Thursday night.

Adrian Beltre hit a home run to left field to score Michael Young and give the Rangers a 2-run lead for closer Joe Nathan.  It is Beltre’s 34th home run of the season.

Starting pitcher Yu Darvish won the pitching duel against Los Angeles ace Zack Greinke.   Darvish allowed just one run on 4 hits over 8 innings.  Darvish struck out 9.

The middle of the lineup generated all the hits and runs for Texas.  Michael Young and Nelson Cruz combined for 4 of the Rangers’ 7 hits.

Texas has a 4-game lead over the A’s, with 13 to go.  They will travel to Seattle to begin a series with the Mariners tonight.  Martin Perez will be on the mound for the Rangers.
