Rangers End Skid In LA

The Texas Rangers ended their 4-game losing streak and avoided the series sweep on Sunday in Los Angeles with a 7-3 victory over the Angels.

Rangers starting pitcher Matt Harrison earned his 7th win of the season, allowing just 4 hits while going 6 2/3 innings.  Harrison struck out 3.

Texas scored in 5 different innings, but it was a towering home run by Nelson Cruz in the 7th inning that delivered the death blow to the Angels.  Cruz’s blast was measured at 484 feet, the longest in the major leagues this season.

The win came a day after Rangers manager Ron Washington called on his team to play better following a slump which saw their AL West lead shrink from 8 1/2 games to 3 1/2.  For a game, at least, the Rangers responded.  “Our focus today was at a whole different level than the last few days,” said shortstop Elvis Andrus, “Yesterday’s talk opened everybody’s eyes.”

Texas stays on the road to start a series with Oakland tonight.  First pitch is set for 9:05pm.
