Rangers End Slump, Top Angels
|The Texas Rangers could not have picked a better time to break out of a 3-game losing streak. With the 2nd-place LA Angels in town and rapidly eating away at the Rangers lead, Texas responded like a team on a mission.
Nelson Cruz hit two home runs and knocked in 6 runs to lead the Rangers to the 11-7 victory. It is the 2nd time this season that Cruz has brought in 6 runs. “It’s good to have a good offensive night, especially against the Angels,” Cruz said.
David Murphy was in the designated hitter spot for Texas, and went 3-for-5, including a grand slam in the 5th inning.
Starting pitcher Derek Holland went 6 2/3 innings, giving up just 1 run to improve his record to 12-5. It was a much needed showing by a Rangers starter, a group which had given up 25 runs in their last 25 innings.
Texas increases it’s lead over the Angels to 3 games. The home series continues tonight at the Ballpark in Arlington.
