Rangers Increase Lead To 6

The Texas Rangers took an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Los Angeles Angels 7-3 on Tuesday night.

The Rangers pounded out 17 hits, led by Michael Young, who went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs.  Josh Hamilton went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the 3rd.  Mitch Moreland also went 3-for-5.  Ian Kinsler’s 7-game hitting streak came to an end, as he was the only Texas starter to not have a hit on the night.  Young talked about the Rangers offense after the game, “We did a good job of being aggressive in the strike zone and laying off stuff that we didn’t want to swing at,” said Young. “We did a good job one through nine.”

Rangers starting pitcher Derek Holland was one out short of a complete game, allowing just 3 runs, while striking out 7.  Holland is 5-0 in his last 8 starts.  Neftali Feliz shut things down in the 9th after Holland came out of the game.

The Rangers have won 5 straight on the road, and 10 of their last 12.  Texas increased their lead over the Angels in the AL West to 6 games.  The two teams will square off again tonight in Anaheim.
