Rangers lose to Royals in 10

Starting pitcher Derek Holland sent the Texas Rangers into the 8th inning with a 1-0 lead over the Kansas City Royals.  With closer Neftali Feliz coming in, that usually spells win for the Rangers.  Not this week.  For the 2nd consecutive game, Feliz blew a save opportunity.  Feliz had never before blown 2 consecutive saves, prior to this week, he only had 4 blown saves in his career.

With 2 on, 2 out, and a full count in the bottom of the ninth, Mike Aviles delivered the game-tying hit on the 11th pitch.  “Aviles fought him for that at-bat and hit the ball to the one spot on the infield where we couldn’t make a play” said Rangers manager Ron Washington.

In the 10th, after the Rangers were retired in order, Darren Oliver gave up two singles before being replaced by Cody Eppley.  Eppley only faced one batter as Jeff Francoeur singled in the winning run.

The Royals outhit the Rangers 14 to 6 on the night.  The Rangers only run coming from a solo homer by Chris Davis in the 2nd.

Texas travels to Philadelphia to open a series tonight at 7:05pm.
