Rangers Lose To Tigers

The Texas Rangers fell to the Detroit Tigers 8-2 on Monday in the first game of the series. The Rangers were playing a comeback game from the first inning as they trailed 5-0 after the first inning.

Pitcher Justin Grimm started for the Rangers but was quickly retired after giving up 6 runs in 1 1/3 innings. Grimm recorded his first loss of the season and has an ERA of 11.57.

The Rangers offense had a strong display but were unable to get the runs needed to comeback in the game. Left fielder Josh Hamilton gave the Rangers their only points in the seventh inning when he hit his 23rd home run of the season that allowed Leonys Martin to get a run. Hamilton finished with 2 RBI’s, a hit and a run in the loss.

The Tigers hitters set their eyes on Leonys Martin in the first inning as three of their hits to the center fielder led to four of the five runs in the first inning. Miguel Cabrera led the Tigers offense with two doubles and a single. Cabrera had 3 RBI’s and a run for the game.

Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello recorded his fifth win and is now .500 for the season. Porcello gave up 6 hits, a run and an error in 6 1/3 innings of play.

The Rangers hope to even the series when they take on the Tigers in Arlington on Tuesday. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
