Rangers lose to Yankees 5-2

The Texas Rangers lost in New York to the Yankees 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.  After being held scoreless through 7 innings and falling behind 3-0, the Rangers mounted a rally in the 8th to come within 3-2.   Then the Yankees added 2 more runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the game.

Derek Holland went 7 2/3 innings, giving up all 5 runs in his first loss of the season.

Former Ranger Mark Teixeira was the difference in the game, accounting for 4 of the Yankee runs.  Teixeira homered in the 1st inning with one on base, sacrificed in the 3rd to bring in Derek Jeter, and scored on a home run by Robinson Cano.

The Rangers had as many hits in just the 8th inning off reliever Rafael Soriano as they did the first 7 off starter Freddy Garcia.  Mitch Moreland started the inning with a double, then moved to third on a Julio Borbon fielder’s choice.  Ian Kinsler went to first base on a walk.  Moreland scored on a single by Elvis Andrus.  Kinsler scored on a single by Michael Young.

The Rangers and Yankees play again Sunday night at 7:05pm.
