Rangers Over Rays 7-2

The Texas Rangers ended their 10 game homestand with a 7-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Starting pitcher CJ Wilson was dominating the game, pitching 5 no-hit innings until he reached out and deflected a ball with his bare throwing hand.  Wilson’s perfect game was gone, as was his feeling in his finger.  From that point, Wilson struggled to complete the inning, and was pulled after the 6th.  Teammate Ian Kinsler remarked how good Wilson’s game was up until then, “He was perfect. He couldn’t do any better.  He was pretty dominant. He was using his fastball to both sides of the plate, striking guys out with his offspeed stuff and running his fastball up, getting strikeouts that way. He was dominating, and it’s tough to see that ball go off his hand, but when you’ve got a perfect game on the line, you do what it takes.”

In the end, Wilson allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in the 6 innings, while striking out 8.  Wilson earns his 14th win of the season.

Kinsler hit 2 home runs on the night, giving him 23 for the season.  Michael Young also hit a home run, his only hit in the game.  David Murphy and Yorvit Torrealba each had 2 hits for the Rangers.

The AL West leading Rangers travel to Boston tonight for a series with the Red Sox.
