Rangers Overcome Rain, Tigers For Game 1 Win

The Texas Rangers suffered through two rain delays as they edged the Detroit Tigers 3-2 to take a 1-0 lead in the ALCS.

The Rangers scored early off Detroit ace Justin Verlander when David Murphy hit a triple in the 2nd inning to send home Mike Napoli.  Murphy then scored on an Ian Kinsler single for a 2-0 lead.

Nelson Cruz hit his first postseason home run in the 4th inning to put the Rangers up 3-0.

Texas starter C.J. Wilson went  4 2/3 innings, striking out 6 and giving up 2 runs before the rains ended his night.  Rangers manager Ron Washington used 5 relievers to finish the game. The bullpen went 4 1/3 innings without allowing a run and giving up just 1 hit.

The Rangers will try to capture another home win when Derek Holland takes the mound tonight against the Tigers at the Ballpark in Arlington.
