Rangers place Beltre on 15-day disabled list
Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has placed third baseman Adrian Beltre on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. To take Beltre’s spot on the 25-man roster, the club has recalled infielder Chris Davis (#19) from Triple-A Round Rock. Davis will be available for tonight’s game against Toronto.
Beltre left last night’s game in the 5th inning due to the hamstring injury after running the bases on Michael Young’s double in that frame. The first date he would be eligible to return is August 7. Beltre has batted .276 with 20 home runs, 29 doubles, and 76 RBI in 100 games with Texas this season. He ranks among American League leaders in extra-base hits (T1st, 49), RBI (2nd, 76), and total bases (5th, 196), leading the Rangers in all three categories. He is also among league leaders in doubles (T2nd, 29) and home runs (T7th, 20). Beltre’s 100 games lead the A.L. He entered today as one of only nine major league players to have appeared in all of his team’s games in 2011.
Davis, 25, will be in his third stint with the Rangers this season, the others coming April 13-May 22 and June 8-10. He has batted .269 (14-52) with 3 homers and 4 RBI in 21 games/14 starts for Texas this season.
He has spent the rest of the campaign at Round Rock (AAA), batting .368 (71-193) with 24 home runs and 66 RBI in 48 games for the Express. Davis has posted a .405 on-base figure and .824 slugging percentage for a 1.229 OPS. Over his last 26 games, Davis has hit .400 (42-105) with 14 home runs, 34 RBI, and 15 multi-hit efforts. Davis’ 24 home runs are tied for 4th-most in the Pacific Coast League and just 4 shy of the league lead despite appearing in just 48 of the club’s 100 games. Davis is averaging a home run every 8.04 at-bats and an RBI every 2.9 at-bats at the Triple-A level this season.
With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
