The Texas Rangers scored a pair of runs in the 9th inning to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals and even the World Series at one game each.

In a game that began as a pitcher’s duel between Rangers starter Colby Lewis and the Cardinals Jaime Garcia, Texas found themselves down 1-0 with only 3 outs to go.

Lewis gave the Rangers their best start of the postseason, going 6 2/3 innings before allowing 2 on base in the 7th.  Alexi Ogando finished the inning, but not before a run scored for St. Louis.

Texas had been unable to get anything going offensively against Garcia, generating only 3 hits through 7 innings.  Ian Kinsler led off the 9th inning with a single, then stole 2nd base.   Kinsler advanced to 3rd on a single by Elvis Andrus, who advanced to 2nd on an error by Albert Pujols.  Josh Hamilton sent Kinlser home with a sacrifice fly to tie the game.  Andrus then scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Michael Young.  It marks the first time in World Series history that both the tying run and winning run were brought home with sacrifice flies.

“That was amazing. That’s who we are,” said Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz.. “That was a great win. It couldn’t have been bigger than that.”

The Rangers return to the Ballpark at Arlington for the next 3 games.  A home sweep would give them their first ever World Series Championship.
