The Texas Rangers will make their second consecutive appearance in the World Series after defeating the Detroit Tigers 15-5 and winning the ALCS 4 games to 2.

The rout began in the 3rd inning when the Rangers, down 2-0, scored 9 runs.  Michael Young hit a pair of 2-RBI doubles in that inning as Texas sent 14 batters to the plate.

The Rangers generated 17 hits in the game, including home runs by Young and Nelson Cruz.  Cruz’ home run in the 7th inning was his 6th of the series, a MLB record.  Cruz also drove in 13 runs in the ALCS.

Texas starting pitcher Derek Holland went 4 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 3 home runs.  Reliever Alexi Ogando earns the win, his 2nd of the postseason.  The Rangers won all 4 games in this series without a win from their starting pitcher.

Texas awaits the winner of the St. Louis Cardinals/Milwaukee Brewers series in the World Series, which starts Wednesday.

Nelson Cruz was named the MVP of the ALCS.
