The Texas Rangers were hammered by the Seattle Mariners 21-8 Wednesday night at the Ballpark in Arlington. The Mariners scored 8 runs in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings.
Rangers starting pitcher Derek Holland lasted less than 2 innings, as he gave up 8 runs on 8 hits, 2 of which were home runs.
The Mariners also feasted on reliever Yoshinori Tateyama, who gave up 8 runs on 7 hits in less than an inning. In all, the Rangers used 7 different pitchers in the game.
To their credit, the Rangers did not give up, even when behind 17-0. Texas scored 5 runs in the 6th inning and looked to have a spark of life left. That spark was extinguished when the Mariners added 4 runs in the 8th.
Al Gonzalez started at shortstop for Elvis Andrus. Gonzalez went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored 3 runs. He also made a throwing error in the 1st inning.
Texas will have the day off before going the Los Angeles for a series with the Angels beginning Friday.
