Rangers Shut Out Red Sox

The Texas Rangers shut out the Boston Red Sox 10-0 Friday night in Fenway Park.  It is the 17th shutout for the Rangers, which ties a club record set in 1977.   12 of the shutouts have come on the road.

Starting pitcher Derek Holland went 7 innings, giving up just 2 runs and striking out 6.  It is Holland’s 13th win on the year against 5 losses.  Relievers Merkin Valdez and Michael Gonzalez each pitched no-hit innings to end the game.

The 2 hits allowed are the fewest hits in a game this year for the Rangers.

The Rangers also worked the plate well, garnering 13 hits, including home runs by Ian Kinsler, David Murphy, and Elvis Andrus.  Murphy had 4 hits in his 5 at-bats.

Texas also gained another game on the LA Angels, who lost at home to Minnesota.  The Rangers now have a 4 1/2 game lead over the Angels for the AL West.  Texas continues the series against the Red Sox this afternoon.
