Dallas, Texas – The Texas Rangers today announced that the club will play the Mexico City Red Devils (Diablos Rojos del Mexico) of the Triple-A Mexican League in an exhibition game on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

The teams made the announcement during a media availability at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Dallas, which was attended by Rangers CEO and President Nolan Ryan, General Manager Jon Daniels, and Manager Ron Washington; Red Devils President Roberto Mansur and Executive President Jorge Alum; and Mexican League President Plinio Escalante.

“The Mexico City Red Devils have a rich history of success,” commented Ryan. “We are very pleased that we will be able to welcome their team to Arlington at the end of spring training.”

The exhibition, which will start at 7:05 p.m., will be one of three games the Rangers will play in Texas to conclude their 2012 spring training schedule. The club will meet its Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express at Round Rock’s Del Diamond on Monday, April 2 (6:05 p.m.) and will travel to Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco on Wednesday, April 4 (2:05 p.m.) to face its Double-A affiliate, the Frisco RoughRiders.

The Rangers open the 2012 regular season at home on Friday, April 6 against the Chicago White Sox.

The Red Devils, who are managed by Mako Oliveras, had the Mexican League’s best

regular season record in 2011 at 63-40 in the league’s North Division. Mexico City won its first two rounds in the playoffs before being swept in four games by the Quintana Roo Tigers in the championship series. The 2011 Red Devils were led by the league’s Most Valuable Player, former major league outfielder Luis Terrero, who batted .390 with 38 homers and 110 RBI. Several other former major leaguers also played for the Red Devils last season, including pitcher Elmer Dessens and infielders Jose Castilla and Luis Cruz, the latter of whom spent most of the year at Triple-A Round Rock.

Diablos Rojos del Mexico have won 15 Mexican League championships in their history, the most of any club.

This will be the first time that the Rangers have played a Mexican League team in Arlington. There will be special pre-game ceremonies prior to the game. Information on tickets for the game will be announced at a later date.
