Shapovalov Wins Dallas Open
|Canada’s Denis Shapovalov won the singles final at the 2025 Dallas Open today in its first rendition as an ATP Tour 500-level event, played at Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas. Shapavolov defeated world No. 5 Casper Ruud in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4, an impressive performance that included 13 aces and 72% of his first serves won.
“I felt like I needed to continue to play the way I’ve been playing, controlling the game and playing aggressively,” Shapovalov said. “Casper is a tricky opponent for me. It’s definitely a very meaningful title for me.”
Shapovalov becomes the third Canadian to win an ATP 500 (joining Felix Auger-Aliassime, who won three; and Milos Raonic, who won one). Appearing in his eighth ATP tour final (3-5), he became the first player since 2019 to record three victories over top 10 ranked opponents in one event (defeating No. 4 Taylor Fritz, No. 9 Tommy Paul, and No. 5 Ruud). This is Shapovalov’s first ATP title above a 250-level event (1-2). By reaching the final, Shapovalov secured his return to the top 50 for the first time since October 2023.
“It means a lot (to win his first ATP 500),” Shapovolov said. “I’m definitely very happy to have this one. It’s such a nice event here in Dallas. It has been such a pleasure to spend the week here.”
- This marked the first time for the event to not have at least one American in the final since 2020 (when it was played in New York), and only the second time in the past nine editions of the tournament.
- Shapovalov improves to 5-25 vs. players ranked in the top five, including his second-round win over No. 4 ranked Taylor Fritz.
- This marks Shapovalov’s first title in North America (also 2019 Stockholm, 2024 Belgrade).
Christian Harrison (USA)/Evan King (USA) defeated Ariel Behar (URU)/Robert Galloway (USA), 7-6, 7-6 to take the Doubles Final.
The American duo of Christian Harrison and Evan King have only been together for a short time. This is their first title in only their second ATP Tour event, now with an overall record of 4-1. For Harrison, he improves to 1-2 in ATP Tour doubles finals, while King appeared in his first-ever ATP Tour Final today.
“We have chemistry, and we understand each other’s game pretty well,” Harrison said post-match. “You can feel that excitement when we are playing together. We were just playing our game and enjoying the week. We’ll have these memories forever.”
Added King, “We’ve known each other for a long time. Christian has been a good friend. It is an awesome feeling, I’m a little bit in shock but it has been a fun ride.”
The Dallas Open, held February 1-9 at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, elevated its status from an ATP 250 to an ATP 500 event, showcasing its strongest field since the tournament’s move to North Texas in 2022. The only ATP Tour indoor championship in the United States, the Dallas Open featured more than 60 world-class ATP Tour professionals in singles and doubles competition. The tournament was televised worldwide to more than 180 countries.
The Dallas Open, previously held as the New York Open, is one of the longest-running American tournaments on the ATP Tour. Its rich history features some of the top names in tennis, including legends John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Michael Chang, John Isner, and Andy Murray, and a current generation of stars like Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, and Reilly Opelka.
