SMU Downs Hofstra

The SMU Mustangs improve to 8-1 with a 73-47 win over Hofstra in Hempstead, New York.  This was the first ever meeting between the schools and the first game for SMU in the state of New York since 1950.  It was a homecoming for SMU head coach Larry Brown, who was born in Brooklyn and coached both the New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets of the NBA.

SMU started the game on a 10-0 run and led 31-19 at the half.  The Mustangs had 4 players scoring in double digits for the 5th time this season.

Guard Nick Russell led the way with 20 points, the 3rd time this year he has scored 20 or more points in a game.  Russell added 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and a career-high 4 steals.

Jalen Jones recorded his 3rd career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Center Cannen Cunningham scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 9 rebounds.

Forward Shawn Williams tallied his second career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

SMU visits Rhode Island on December 15.
