SEATTLE (SMU) — Despite getting on the board first, the SMU men’s soccer team fell, 2-1, in double overtime to No. 5 Washington at Husky Soccer Stadium on Friday evening. The non-conference loss dropped the Mustangs to 2-6, while the Huskies improved to 6-0-2.

The match winner came in the 105th minute on a goal from junior Darwin Jones.

UW outshot the Mustangs, 28-6, in the contest, and had the 15-0 advantage in corner kicks.

SMU’s goal came from junior Andrew Morales in the 22nd minute. The Rocky Mount, N.C., native found himself with the ball at his feet after a shot from fellow junior Damian Rosales was tipped off the crossbar by UW goalkeeper Ryan Herman. The goal was his second of 2013, and the assist was the first for Rosales.

The Mustang defense held the Huskies scoreless for the next 22 minutes, before UW came up with the equalizer just a minute before the break. Freshman Mason Robertson connected on his second goal of the season off a throw from senior Michael Harris.

The second frame saw a 14-2 advantage in shots for the Huskies, but the

SMU defense, led by senior goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra, kept the half scoreless and forced overtime. In both periods of extra time, UW registered a combined six shots to the Mustangs’ one.

In addition to the goal, Morales had a pair of shots to lead the Mustang attack. Senior Max Rockwell also chipped in with two shots of his own, while Rosales and sophomore Eddie Puskarich had one apiece.

Ibarra finished the match with nine saves to bring his season total to 25.

The Mustangs are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Portland to take on the Pilots. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 pm CT, and live stats and video can be found at SMUMustangs.com.
