SMU Women Lose To East Carolina

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU Mustangs received a career-high 13 points from freshman Stephanie Collins, but it was not enough as the Mustangs lost at East Carolina, 67-53, in Greenville, N.C. on Wednesday night.

Four SMU (5-20, 1-13 The American) players scored in double-figures, led by Collins’ 13. Freshman Alicia Frolingnarrowly missed out on a double-double, ending the game with 10 points and nine rebounds.

East Carolina (18-8, 9-6) was led by forward Jada Payne, who recorded 20 points in 27 minutes.

The Pirates took control of the game early, taking a 30-6 lead with 8:48 to go in the first half. The home squad took a 46-21 lead into halftime, including 14 first-half points from Payne.

In the second half, the Mustangs held the Pirates to just 21 points on 25 percent shooting (8-of-32) and doubled them up on the glass (30 rebounds to 15), but could not pull within single digits.

Froling’s 10 points brought her to double-figures for the 19th time this season. Collins played a career-high 27 minutes and tied a personal best with seven rebounds. Collins also had four blocks for the third time in four games. Sophomore Morgan Bolton had 11 points and juniorGabrielle Wilkins posted 12 in a team-high 34 minutes.

Next up for SMU is a road trip to Houston on Saturday, with game time set for 2 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed live online via the American Digital Network.
