SMU Women Lose To Tulsa

DALLAS (SMU) – Despite a career-high 19 points from Gabrielle Wilkins, the SMU women’s basketball team fell to Tulsa, 72-59, on Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.

SMU (5-19, 1-12 The American) donned pink uniforms in the annual Play 4Kay game. Play 4Kay is an initiative across women’s basketball to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research in honor and memory of legendary coach Kay Yow.

In addition to Wilkins’ 19, Alicia Froling also reached double figures with 10 points. Froling has now reached double digits in four of the last five contests.

Morgan Bolton added eight points, five rebounds and four assists, while freshman Stephanie Collins was a force on the defensive end, tying her career high in blocks with four and setting a new career high in steals with three.

Tulsa (14-10, 9-4 The American) carried a 29-21 lead into halftime, despite shooting just 37 percent from the field and 13 percent from three in the first half.

The Mustangs could not close the gap in the second half, as the Golden Hurricane extended its lead to double digits for the majority of the second half.

Ashley Clark led Tulsa with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Teanna Reid added 12 points and five boards.

The Mustangs head to Greenville, North Carolina, for a matchup with East Carolina on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
