FORT WORTH, Texas (September 8, 2010) – Giving back to the North Texas area is an integral part of Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas Chapter’s mission and this week its impact on the community will be on full display as it hosts its annual blood drive along with its popular fundraising event, Laps for Charity II.

On Friday, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. CT, individuals can take part in the annual blood drive supporting the American Red Cross held at The Speedway Club at Texas Motor Speedway on the fourth floor. Donors will receive a specially designed Red Cross Racing t-shirt and will the have the opportunity to win race tickets and Red Cross Racing prizes. Donors can visit www.redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code, “childrenscharities,” to schedule an appointment.

Speedway Children’s Charities will continue the weekend by hosting its fan-favorite fundraiser Laps for Charity II on Saturday. Fans have the opportunity to take a rare lap around Texas Motor Speedway’s high-banked track in their personal vehicle. For a $30 donation to Speedway Children’s Charities, fans will enjoy three-lap run around the speedway.

Participants also have the opportunity to have their picture taken in Victory Lane for an additional $10. A limited number of special VIP packages also are available that include a reserved time for a five-lap session, photo in Victory Lane, two event T-shirts, two-week trial membership to The Speedway Club and dinner for two in The Speedway Club that evening for $250.

More than 15 car clubs from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex already have signed up and clubs wanting to participate can still reserve a time slot. Car clubs will be on the track from 5-7 p.m. CT and the general public will run from 7-10 p.m. No reservation is needed for the general public.

“Fans will have plenty of opportunities to help Speedway Children’s Charities this weekend,” Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said. “It’s not every day you get to help a wonderful cause and enjoy a memorable ride in your own personal vehicle on ‘The Great American Speedway!’ Laps for Charity remains one of the key events in helping Speedway Children’s Charities raise $1 million in grants the previous two years.”

Over the course of 14 years, Laps for Charity has helped raise more than $575,000 that benefits the children of Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties. Laps for Charity is one of several major fundraising opportunities SCC-Texas hosts throughout the year. Since the chapter’s inception in 1997, more than $6.7 million in funding has been distributed to non-profit organizations in North Texas.
