TCU Rifle Team Wins 20th Straight

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU Horned Frog rifle team stretched its winning streak to 20 matches with a 4,640-4,621 victory over UTEP Sunday morning. Sarah Beard took home first place honors in smallbore, while Caitlin Morrissey finished first in air rifle.

The Frogs eked out a four-point victory in smallbore, topping UTEP 2,299-2,295. Beard fired a 583 to claim the top spot, while Mattie Brogdon tied for second with a score of 576. Morrissey finished fifth with a 574, while Catherine Green’s score of 566 was eighth. Nicole Makrakis rounded out the Frog shooters with a 542.

A strong performance in air rifle helped the Frogs wrap up the match victory. The Frogs defeated UTEP 2,341-2,332 in air rifle. Morrissey’s 589 in the event was tops followed closely by Green’s 587. Brogdon fired a 583 to lock down a fifth place finish. Beard tied for sixth with a 582, while Maggie Savage’s career-high 581 came in eighth. Jaime Dowd fired a 569 and Makrakis a 545 to round out the field.

TCU will take its winning streak on the road next weekend as they travel to Nebraska for a Sunday contest.
