TCU Beats LIU
|The TCU Horned Frogs delivered a commanding performance in their home opener, blanking the Long Island University Sharks 45-0 on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
TCU’s offense fired on all cylinders, with running back Cam Cook leading the charge. Cook rushed for three touchdowns, finding the end zone on runs of 1, 12, and 5 yards. His final score early in the second half pushed the Horned Frogs’ lead to 38-0, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Quarterback Josh Hoover also had a strong showing, completing 28 of 42 passes for 353 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver J. Bech was Hoover’s primary target, hauling in 6 receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown.
The Horned Frogs’ defense was equally impressive, completely shutting down the Sharks’ offense. LIU struggled to move the ball throughout the game, managing only 127 total yards and 9 first downs. Quarterback Luca Stanzani completed just 8 of 18 passes for 60 yards, facing constant pressure from TCU’s defensive front.
TCU’s special teams also contributed to the lopsided victory. A mishandled snap by LIU punter Will Lynch set up Cook’s first touchdown, giving the Horned Frogs excellent field position at the Sharks’ 11-yard line.
TCU receiver Savion Williams showcased his versatility, completing a 15-yard pass to set up a touchdown. This marked the first pass completion in the fifth-year senior’s collegiate career.
For LIU, running back L. Choquette provided a bright spot, rushing for 128 yards on 15 carries.
The victory improves TCU’s record to 2-0 for the first time since their College Football Playoff run in 2022. The Horned Frogs will look to build on this momentum as they continue their non-conference schedule.
LIU falls to 0-2 on the season and will seek their first win next Saturday when they host Lehigh in their home opener.
This matchup marked TCU’s first game against a New York-based team since their 2006 victory over Army. For LIU, it was another challenging outing as they continue to navigate the transition following the merger of their athletic programs in recent years.
