TCU Shuts Down Cameron in Home Exhibition

FORT WORTH—The TCU men’s basketball team took to its home court for the first time this season Saturday night, posting a 68-46 exhibition victory over Cameron University at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Five of the 11 Horned Frogs to see action are newcomers to the program this season.

A pair of seniors led TCU in the scorebook in guard J.R. Cadot and forward Craig Williams, as both players scored 11 points. Williams, one of the contingent of new players who playedSaturday, went 4-for-9 from the field and pulled down a game-best nine rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench. Cadot, who shot over 65 percent last season as a junior, made 4-of-5 field-goal attempts.

Junior guard Garlon Green, the Frogs’ leading scorer from a season ago, totaled nine points and eight boards, while junior forward Connell Crossland also netted nine points.

Senior guard Hank Thorns scored eight points with six boards and a game-best seven assists.

Forward Vincius Telo scored a game-high 20 points for Cameron, but the Frogs were able to limit his impact by holding him to only 8-of-25 shooting. Telo added nine rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. Guard Milton Garner also reached double figures in points with 10.

TCU showed off an improved defensive determination throughout the game, holding the Aggies to only 25.4 percent shooting from the field (17-of-67), including only 17 percent (4-of-23) from 3-point range. The Frogs also won the rebounding battle (49-41) and dished out 18 assists to only five for Cameron.

TCU finished the game shooting 43.6 percent itself and made 7-of-24 attempts from 3-point range. Cadot made two of the treys, which nearly equaled his total of three from all of last season.

The Frogs jumped on top of the Aggies early, leading by as many as 16 points with just over four minutes remaining in the first half. Williams had eight points and seven rebounds in the openingperiod in only 13 minutes on the floor.

TCU officially opens the 2011-12 regular season next Friday, when it plays host to Florida Gulf Coast for a 7 p.m. matchup at the DMC.
