TCU Tennis Falls To San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The TCU men’s tennis team endured its first loss in Mountain West play Sunday, dropping a 5-2 score to No. 58 San Diego State at the Aztec Tennis Center.

TCU battled throughout the day, starting with the doubles portion. While SDSU swept the Horned Frogs at all three courts to take an early 1-0 lead in the team score, the Purple and White kept it tight as all three matches were decided by the score of 8-6.

Freshman Facundo Lugones continued his impressive 2012 campaign, cruising to a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Freddy Gelbrich from the No. 4 court. The Buenos Aires, Argentina product has now won three-consecutive matches and remains unbeaten against the Mountain West.

Newcomer Will Stein also picked up a win Sunday, fighting back to collect a 6-4, 6-7 (8), 6-3 decision at the fifth court against Rickey Baylon. Stein, a native of Argyle, Texas is now 5-3 from the No. 5 court in his first collegiate season.

TCU will continue the Mountain West slate at home, hosting Boise State (April 13) and Air Force (April 15).
