TCU Tennis Wins Against Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. – TCU’s men’s tennis team got back into the win column Sunday evening with a 5-0 win over Oral Roberts inside the University of Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs improved to 6-3 on the year after falling to No. 17 Tulsa earlier in the day. ORU slipped to 0-5.

TCU swept all three doubles matches to open the match with a 1-0 lead. Facundo Lugones and Blake Wiggins, playing together for the first time this spring, took care of Parker Allen and Braxton Bates, 8-3.

Max Stevens and Rodolfo Bustamante, also pairing up for the first time, added an 8-5 triumph over Nathanil Avery and Fabian Zierleyn at No. 2 doubles before Nick Chappell and Will Stein got an 8-5 win of their own over Jason Mechali and Pedro Moreno on the top court.

TCU got rolling early in singles as Stein extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 dismissal of Avery at No. 5 singles. Bustamante made it 3-0 in favor of TCU with his 6-1, 6-0 downing of Moreno at No. 3 singles.

Playing at No. 2, Superlano dropped Mechali, 6-1, 6-1 to clinch TCU’s win just before Wiggins added his first win of the spring, a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Bates. The remaining two matches at Nos. 1 and 4 singles were unfinished with TCU leading both.

TCU returns to action Feb. 17 when it travels to Rice. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m., in Houston.
