TCU Volleyball Sets School Record

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU volleyball team made history Tuesday night with their 10th straight victory, topping Baylor 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 26-24). The Frogs are 10-0 to start the season for the first time in school history.

Kristen Hester led the Frog attack with 13 kills. She tallied a pair of aces, six digs and a team-high three blocks. Jordan Raines racked up her sixth double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Megan Munce pitched in with seven kills to go along with her 29 assists and five digs. Sloane Sunstrum had four kills to go along with her 12 digs.

Sarah Joeckel dominated the backcourt with a match-high 29 digs. The 29 digs sets a school record for digs in a three-set match, while the 77 total digs in the match ranks third all-time in a three-set match.

The Horned Frogs raced out to an early 11-6 lead to take control of the first set. Hester got things rolling with a cross-court kill. She punched down three more kills in the early rally and was helped along by kills from Sunstrum and Igodan to help the Frogs build the advantage.

Baylor rallied back to tie the set at 15, but the Frogs had an answer in Hester, who broke the tie with her fifth kill of the set. She took the service line and pushed the lead to three, 19-16. Igodan and Raines stuffed a Bear attack and Raines tallied a kill to give the Frogs the cushion. Hester gave the Frogs set point and TCU claimed the 25-19 set one win on a Bear miscue.

TCU led wire-to-wire in the second set as the Frogs opened up a commanding 2-0 match lead. The Frogs picked apart the Bear defense and racked up kills from Munce, Hester and Raines to build a 13-8 lead. An attacking error by Baylor gave the Frogs a 17-10 advantage.

After a timeout, the Bears tried to climb back in the set as they went on a 9-6 run to pull within four, 23-19. Raines staunched the rally with her fifth kill of the set and Munce gave the Frogs set point. Hester finished off the 25-20 victory with an ace.

Out of the intermission, the Bears came out swinging and built a 19-13 lead, forcing a TCU timeout. The break was all the Frogs needed to jump on the comeback trail. Munce and Raines combined to serve the Frogs back within two, 21-19. Igodan soared in the middle as she blasted a trio of kills to make it 20-19.

The Bears pushed the lead to 24-22, but the Frogs were not going to be denied. Hester helped TCU stave off a set point and put the Frogs back on the offensive. Raines tied the set at 24 and Hester gave the Frogs match point. Sunstrum capped off the victory with an ace.

The Horned Frogs improve to 10-0 on the campaign. They will head to Seton Hall for their final tournament of the season. The Frogs will face off against Boston College at Noon (CST) Friday afternoon.
