TCU wins Rose Bowl

The TCU Horned Frogs capped off an undefeated season with a 21-19 Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.  It is TCU’s second undefeated season; the Horned Frogs went 11-0 in their 1938 National Championship season.  The 13 wins is the most ever for the school.  TCU has won 27 of its last 28 overall games and is 39-3 in its last 42 contests. Over the last six seasons, TCU is 33-1 in day games. TCU is now 39-14 (.736) in road and neutralsite games since 2003.

The first half of the game was all about offense, with only 1 punt the entire first half.  TCU led 14-13 at the intermission, on the strength of an Andy Dalton pass to Bart Johnson for 23 yards and a touchdown, followed by a Dalton 6 yard TD run.  The Horned Frogs led at the half of all 13 games this season.

TCU quarterback Andy Dalton won his third career bowl game Most Valuable Player award, also earning the honor in the 2007 Texas Bowl and 2008 Poinsettia Bowl.

The 24 points scored in the first quarter set a new Rose Bowl record.

Wisconsin’s 226 total rushing yards were almost twice as many as TCU’s nationleading defense had been allowing entering today’s game (89.2 yards per game).

Wisconsin finished the game with 385 yards of total offense, becoming just the second team this season to gain more than 300 yards against TCU this season.
The Horned Frogs’ defense has allowed only four offensive touchdowns in the last three bowl games.

After the first half, the defenses settled in.  Each team could only muster one touchdown.  The Wisconsin TD was not enough, as the 2-point conversion failed.
