FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU closed the first half on a 14-4 run and never trailed the rest of the night, downing Tulsa at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Tuesday, 60-43.

The Frogs, who led by as many as 19 Tuesday, turned a back-and-fourth game early into a one-sided affair when they opened the second half on an 8-2 run, which included three’s by both junior Whitney Williams and sophomore Briesha Wynn. In all, TCU, now 6-5 on the season, went on a combined 22-6 run between the end of the first half and the beginning moments of the second frame to blow the game wide open.

Wynn continued her strong offensive game Tuesday night, scoring a team-high 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, marking the fourth time in five games the sophomore has scored in double-figures. By leading TCU in scoring, Wynn, who also grabbed seven rebounds Tuesday, has now carried the Frogs on the offensive end of the court two out of the last three games heading into break.

The Purple and White also received a solid contribution from Latricia Lovings, who posted nine points and seven boards. Lovings also recorded three blocks on Tuesday, which moves her into sole possession of No. 10 all-time in program history in blocked shots with 48 for her young career. The sophomore passed Staci Ward, who tallied 45 blocks between 1984-88.

Finally, Antoinette Thompson and Jazz Parker posted seven points apiece on the night, respectively.

Tulsa, who is now 3-6 on the season, shot only 23.9 percent from the field on 16-of-67 shooting, which included an 0-for-5 showing from behind the arc in the second half Tuesday. The Golden Hurricanes were led on the night by Taleya Mayberry and Chanice Scott. Mayberry scored 13 points on 2-of-14 shooting, while

Scott was the only other Tulsa player in double-figures with 10 points.

By holding the Golden Hurricanes to only 23.9 percent for the game, TCU has now held six different opponents on the season to less than 30 percent from the field. The Frogs have now also done so in back-to-back games against Sam Houston State and Tulsa. Not to be outdone, the Golden Hurricanes’ 16.7 percent from behind the arc, marked the fifth time this season TCU has held the opposition to less than 20 percent shooting from three-point land.

Williams got the Frogs rolling in the second, tickling the twine from deep on the very first possession. Chelsea Prince then found the bottom of the net and Wynn drilled another triple from the right side of the floor to move the score to 37-20 at the 18:14 mark. In all, six of the Frogs first eight points were from deep until Lovings nailed a turnaround just outside the lane.

With the Frogs up by 18, Tulsa cut into the Horned Frog lead slightly until Ashley Colbert and Lovings scored on consecutive trips, respectively, with 10 minutes remaining in the period to bring the score to 48-32.

Wynn and Delisa Gross both rolled jumpers over the side of the rim at the 7:00 mark and the Horned Frogs put it on cruise control the rest of the way Tuesday, winning 60-43.

The Frogs opened the game jumping out to an early 4-0 lead, but Tulsa responded with a 8-1 run before freshman Logan Mittie knocked down back-to-back free throws to halt the Golden Hurricanes.

Following an offensive rebound, Wynn, who scored six of the Frogs’ first 11 points, drilled a jumper with a little over 10 minutes remaining in the opening frame to bring TCU within one at 10-9. The sophomore continued her offensive production a few moments later, dropping the ball off the glass to regain the lead for the Purple and White.

The two teams would go back-and-fourth the next couple of trips down the court, including Prince who skied through the lane to give TCU a 15-14 lead at the 6:31 mark of the first half.

Freshman Jazz Parker then got hot, scoring five-straight points, which included a deep trey from the top of the key that ultimately gave TCU a 20-18 advantage. Lovings followed that up with a bucket of her own to push the Purple and White lead to 22-18 and Thompson drilled a triple the next trip down the court, to make the score 25-18 as time ran down in the first half.

In all, TCU went on a 14-4 run to close the half and bring the halftime score to 29-18.

The Horned Frogs will return to the court against Oklahoma on Wednesday, Dec. 28. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. from Norman, Okla., and will be shown live on ESPN3.
