TCU Women Lose At Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – The TCU women’s basketball team was plagued by a cold-shooting effort on Saturday evening, falling to Oklahoma by a score of 63-52 at Lloyd Noble Center. The Horned Frogs fell to 12-7 overall and 3-4 in Big 12 play, while the Sooners improved to 13-7 on the season and 4-3 in league action.
Junior guard Natalie Ventress led the Horned Frogs with 14 points, connecting on a season-high four 3-pointers on eight attempts while grabbing three steals in 35 minutes.
Fellow junior Donielle Breaux also scored in double figures with 11 points, while sophomore forward Chelsea Prince tallied nine points off a perfect 7-of-7 effort from the free-throw line to go with a career-best 10 rebounds.
The Horned Frogs connected on just four of their 25 field-goal attempts in the first half but managed to trim the deficit to just nine points (29-20) at the break.
Prince helped TCU stay within striking distance down the stretch in the opening half, converting a pair of free throws before posting a layup in transition and sinking the ensuing free throw to cut the Oklahoma lead to 23-16 at the 4:12 mark.
With Oklahoma back on top by 11 points, freshman Jada Butts stole the ball and was fouled with under a second left, as the two free throws trimmed the deficit back down to single digits.
Ventress opened the scoring in the second half with a bucket from distance to cut
the Sooner lead to just six, but Oklahoma would answer with a 15-2 run to stretch its lead to 44-25 at the 14:52 mark.
Breaux caught fire late, knocking down back-to-back 3-pointers to bring the contest back to single digits at 59-50 with just under two minutes left to play.
The Frogs would be unable to quickly get the ball back on the next Oklahoma possession, as the Sooners grabbed an offensive board and followed with a steal, turning into a pair of free throws.
Breaux again cut the deficit to nine with a floater off the glass with 1:06 remaining, but the Frogs wouldn’t come any closer.
TCU shot 24 percent (14-of-58) for the game while the Sooners finished with a 43-percent mark (21-of-49) from the field.
The Frogs grabbed 18 offensive rebounds to win the battle on the glass by a 39-37 margin while outscoring Oklahoma 12-0 in second chance points.
TCU forced 12 Oklahoma turnovers in the first half, but the Sooners would hand the ball over just four times in the final 20 minutes compared to 18 total Frog miscues.
TCU returns home to play host to No. 8 Oklahoma State at 7 p.m., on Wednesday.
