FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women’s basketball team had its three-game Big 12 winning streak snapped in a 97-81 loss to Oklahoma on Saturday at the University Recreation Center.

The Horned Frogs dropped to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in Big 12 play, while the Sooners improved to 11-5 on the season and remained unbeaten in the league at 5-0.

Veja Hamilton and Natalie Ventress each tallied 23 points to lead the Frogs, while Zahna Medley and Chelsea Prince also scored in double figures with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Hamilton continued her hot streak, matching a career best with 11 made field goals on 17 attempts, while Ventress set a new career high with 10 field goals on 12 attempts.

Despite the Frogs shooting a season-high 54 percent from the field and matching a season best with 12 3-pointers, TCU struggled to match up inside with the Sooners, who won the battle in the paint by a 46-18 margin.

TCU hung with the Sooners throughout the first half in a fast-paced 20 minutes, tying Oklahoma at 22-22 on a Hamilton jumper at the 9:50 mark.

The Sooners jumped out to a nine-point advantage on an 8-2 run, but the Frogs stayed within striking distance on a 3-point barrage, capped by a Prince 3-point bucket to bring the deficit to three with 1:57 remaining in the opening half.

Oklahoma went into the half with a 50-43 advantage and opened the second half on a 20-7 run in the first five minutes to take a 70-50 lead.

The Frogs would cut the deficit down to 12 with just under two minutes remaining on Medley’s fifth 3-pointer of the contest, but couldn’t come any closer.

TCU returns to action when it takes on Iowa State at 7 p.m., on Wednesday in Ames.
