FORT WORTH, Texas – Fresh off of sweeping Air Force this past weekend, the TCU Horned Frogs swept the MW Player of the Week honors. Jason Coats was tabbed the league’s Hitter of the Week, while Preston Morrison was selected as the Pitcher of the Week.

Coats, a senior from Plano, Texas, hit .571 (8-of-14) for the week as the Horned Frogs swept Air Force to take over first place in the MW standings. Coats recorded multiple hits in all three games, starting with a home run on Friday to give TCU a 1-0 lead that it would never relinquish. He finished Friday’s 10-0 win with three hits, three runs scored and three RBI.

Coats picked up his second home run of the weekend in Saturday’s 17-2 victory as part of a trio of Frogs that hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning. He ended up driving in four runs in three consecutive at-bats during the game on three hits.

In Sunday’s 6-1 decision, Coats finished the game with two hits, a run scored and an RBI. His first hit on Sunday was the 300th of his career, while his lone RBI gave him 200 for his career, just the second Horned Frog to reach both milestones.

Morrison, a rookie from Waxhaw, N.C., threw eight scoreless innings on the way to the Frogs’ 10-0 shutout of Air Force on Friday. He allowed only two hits, while walking one batter and striking out seven. Morrison combined with Kaleb Merck, who threw the ninth inning, for his first career shutout.

The honor is the second of the season for Morrison as he was named Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 27. Coats was honored for the first time this season and the third time in his career.

Andrew Mitchell has twice been named MW Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 27 and April 16. Stefan Crichton (March 5) has also been honored this season. Derek Odell is the Frogs’ only other MW Hitter of the Week as he was named last week.
