TCU’s Fields Named MW Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – TCU sophomore forward Amric Fields has been named Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The honor marks the first career MW award for Fields and the first of the season for the Horned Frogs.

Fields matched a season high with 18 points and tied his career best of six rebounds while leading TCU to a 78-74 home victory over Rice last Wednesday. The Frog sophomore shot 7-of-11 (.636) from the field overall, including 2-of-5from 3-point range, while adding two assists, two steals and one blocked shot in 22 minutes of action off the bench. He scored five of the Frogs’ final nine points, hitting a 3-pointer to give TCU a three-point edge (72-69) at the 1:30 mark before adding two free throws on the following possession to push the advantage to five (74-69) with less than a minute remaining. Eleven of Fields’ team-high 18 points came in the second half.

A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., Fields ranks fourth among TCU players this season in scoring with a 9.5-points-per-game average. He is shooting a team-best 53.5 percent from the field overall and 37.9 percent from 3-point range, while he also paces the squad and ranks No. 7 in the Mountain West in blocked shots (0.8 blocks per game). He has scored in double figures in eight of TCU’s 14 contests, leading the Frogs twice.

TCU returns to action Wednesday evening when it plays host to Texas-Pan American at 7 p.m. at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Frogs then head to Fort Collins, Colo., on Saturday for their MW opener against Colorado State at 7 p.m. CST.
