TCU’s Gipson Picks Up Weekly Conference Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – TCU junior Whitney Gipson has been named the Mountain West Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Co-Athlete of the Week, sharing the honor with BYU’s Lacey Bleazard.

Gipson, a product of Newark, Texas, earned a third-place showing in the women’s long jump at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. on Jan. 29. In a field featuring four of the nation’s top-six long jumpers, Gipson leaped a season-best mark of 20-9.25 (6.33m) to finish third behind NCAA automatic qualifiers Chantel Malone (21-10.00) of No. 8 Texas and Kimberly Williams (21-3.75) of No. 11 Florida State. Gipson’s jump ranks first in the Mountain West this season and fourth in the nation.

TCU will resume its indoor season in two weeks at the Tyson Invitational, Feb. 11-12.
