TCU’s Wynn Transfers To UNT
DENTON, Texas – North Texas women’s basketball has signed TCU transfer Briesha Wynn head coach Mike Petersen announced today. Wynn, ranked as the 17th best player in the state of Texas coming out of North Crowley High School in 2010, will sit out 2012-13 due to NCAA transfer rules, but has two years of eligibility remaining with the Mean Green.
Wynn is eligible at the beginning of the 2013-14 season, the first year for North Texas in Conference USA.
“We are happy and excited that Briesha has decided to become part of the Mean Green basketball program,” said Petersen. “She is a gifted basketball player with the skill set and athletic ability to help us compete for championships as we move into Conference USA in her first year of eligibility.”
Wynn, a 6-0 combination player who can play both the guard and forward position, finished the 2011-12 season at TCU with her first career double-double in the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
Wynn played in a total of 63 games for TCU and scored in double figures in 13 of those games, led by a career-high 16 point game against San Diego State.
She was the third-leading scorer for TCU in 2011-12, averaging 7.3 points, and ranked fifth on the Horned Frogs with 5.4 points per game in 2010-11.
A prolific rebounder, Wynn ranked second on the team in 2011-12 with 4.9 rebounds per game, and picked up 3.1 boards per contest in 2010-11, which included a career-high 15 rebounds against UT Arlington.
In high school, Wynn was one of the most highly decorated players in the state. She was ranked as the 17th best senior in the state of Texas and the nation’s No. 23 wing player by ESPN HoopGurlz. She scored 11.6 points, a 9.0 rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 2.4 assists per game while at North Crowley her senior season.
Wynn was named a Class 5A All-State player by the Texas Girls Coaches Association and was named academic all-state by the TGCA. She was the District 3-5A Defensive MVP and a first-team all-district player her senior season. Wynn was named one of the Dallas Morning News’ 20 area players to watch for the 2009-10 season.
In her junior season, Wynn averaged 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds per game and was named the Best Rebounder of the Year. Wynn played for Southwest High School in Fort Worth and was the Freshman of the Year.
