Third baseman Tyler Campbell drove in right fielder Rhett Wiseman with the winning run in the 10th inning Saturday as Vanderbilt beat Texas 4-3 and advanced to the finals of the College World Series at Omaha, Neb.

The Commodores will face Virginia in the finals, starting Monday. Virginia beat Mississippi 4-1 on Saturday.

In the 10th inning, Vanderbilt loaded the bases when Wiseman singled and stole second base, pinch hitter Ro Coleman walked and catcher Karl Ellison was hit by a pitch. Campbell then drove in Wiseman with an infield single.

Wiseman was one of five Vanderbilt players with two hits. He and center fielder John Norwood each drove in a run.

Carson Fulmer and Hayden Stone split the pitching duties for the Commodores. Fulmer gave up four hits, six walks and two runs in 4 1/3 innings. Stone went the rest of the way, allowing one run on three hits and

one walk while striking out eight.

John Curtiss — the last of four pitchers for Texas — took the loss.

Vanderbilt ended a 19-inning scoreless streak by Texas pitchers in the first inning as the Commodores took a 1-0 lead off Parker French.

With one out, left fielder Bryan Reynolds singled to left field, moved to second base on a single by shortstop Vince Conde, advanced to third when first baseman Zander Wiel walked and scored on Norwood’s bases-loaded fielder’s choice (Texas made the out at third).

With a little help from Texas, Vanderbilt created a run in the third inning. Conde reached on an error by third baseman Zane Gurwitz. With one out, Norwood reached on a bunt single, moving Conde to second base. After Wiseman popped out, Norwood and Conde pulled off a double steal, and Conde kept going when catcher Tres Barrera committed a throwing error.

Texas tied it in the fourth on a two-run single by first baseman Kacy Clemens. Shortstop C.J. Hinojosa doubled to start the inning, and right fielder Collin Shaw reached on an infield single. After left fielder Ben Johnson walked to load the bases and Barrera struck out, Clemens stroked a single up the middle to score Hinojosa and Shaw.

Vanderbilt took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Wiseman’s double scored Wiel from second base.

Texas matched Vandy again in the top of the sixth when Barrera led off with a triple and scored one out later on a single by Gurwitz.
