Surprise, AZ—Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington announced today that right-hander Colby Lewis will be the starting pitcher when the club opens its 2012 season on Friday, April 6 against the Chicago White Sox at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

It will be the first opening day start for Lewis, who was 14-10 with a 4.40 ERA in 32 starts with the Rangers in 2011. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Texas has had a different opening day starting pitcher: Kevin Millwood in 2009, Scott Feldman in 2010, and C.J. Wilson in 2011. Millwood was on the mound for four straight openers from 2006-09.

Left-handers Derek Holland and Matt Harrison will start the final two games of the White Sox series on Saturday and Sunday, April 7-8. Right-hander Yu Darvish is scheduled to make his major league debut when the Rangers open a four-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Monday, April 9. Righthander Neftali Feliz completes the rotation and is set to make his first big league start on Tuesday, April 10 versus the Mariners.
