Tiger Woods commits to two PGA Tour events

The 2018 portion of the wraparound schedule got underway today with the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, the exclusive event that features the winners from the 2017 PGA Tour including marquee names like Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth.

One golfer who is not there is Tiger Woods, who played in only two events last year, missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines and a WD prior to the second round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Following an impressive 8-under par performance at the Hero World Challenge in December, there has been a lot of buzz about where the 14-time major champion would make his return. Thursday, Woods tweeted that he would be making his next two starts at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines and the Genesis Open at Riviera.

Woods has won the event at Torrey Pines seven times and it was the site of his last major win, the 2008 U.S. Open.

While Woods has never won at Riviera, his foundation runs the event and it is where he made his PGA Tour debut as a 16-year-old amateur in 1992.

“I’m very excited to be back at Riviera,” Woods said, on his website. “I haven’t played at Riviera in a tournament in a very long time. To be able to play in an event that I used to come to as an amateur, as a junior and now as the tournament host, that is on one of the most historic sites in all of golf, it’s a dream come true.”
