Tony Stewart on pole for NASCAR Samsung Mobile 500

Tony Stewart won the Coors Light Pole Award for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.  Stewart put down a lap of 28.224 seconds for a speed of 191.327 mph.  This is his first pole since  October 2005 at Martinsville Speedway.  Incidentally, this is Stewarts 400th career start in the series.  Stewart commented about the lap, “I am not much of a qualifier.  It shows Darian Grubb (crew chief) and all the guys at Stewart-Haas, how hard of work they have been doing and today is a result of that.”

Sam Hornish Jr. qualified 2nd, his career best.  Also in the top-5 were Greg Biffle, Jimmy Johnson, and Kasey Kahne.
