Transfer Williams to Join Frogs for 2011-12

FORT WORTH—TCU men’s basketball has added a seventh newcomer to the roster for the 2011-12 season in forward Craig Williams, a 6-9, 240-pound transfer from Temple.

Williams, who will be available to play his final year of eligibility this fall, redshirted last season in his senior campaign with the Owls after suffering a pre-season foot injury.

A native of Christiansted, St. Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Williams played three full seasons for Temple, appearing in 61 games with 13 starts. His top season in 2008-09 saw him post single-game averages of 5.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore, while he also knocked down 38-of-95 attempts from 3-point range (40.0 percent). Williams averaged 3.8 points and 1.8 boards per contest with 29 treys made as a junior in 2009-10.

“We are happy to be able to add a player like Craig Williams to our roster,” head coach Jim Christian said. “Craig is a guy who comes from a winning program, one that reached the NCAA Tournament each year he was on campus. He’s very versatile for a big man, and we believe he will be a good fit for our program this season.”

Prior to his time at Temple, Williams starred for St. Croix Central High School, where he was the squad’s Player of the Year each of his final two seasons. He averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds as a senior in 2006-07, his second straight year with a 20-point scoring average. In addition to playing high school ball, Williamsalso has spent time with the Virgin Islands National Tem.

The addition of Williams gives another boost to a new-look TCU frontcourt featuring three other big-bodied newcomers measuring at least 6-8 and 240 pounds in Winslo Barry (6-11, 240), Adrick McKinney (6-8, 250) and Ryan Rhoomes (6-9, 240). The four players will joinreturning letterwinner Cheick Kone (6-10, 235) in the mix in the low post.
