Young’s Walk-Off Single Gives Rangers Win

Michael Young blasted a fly ball over the head of Corey Patterson to score pinch-runner Craig Gentry, giving the Texas Rangers a 5-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night at the Ballpark in Arlington.

The Rangers were down by 2 when coming up in the bottom of the 9th inning.  A walk and 3 straight bunts tied the game at 4 and put the winning run on 3rd base.  Josh Hamilton was intentionally walked bringing Young to the plate.  Young delivered the hit for the walk-off win.

Hamilton went 3-for-4 on the night and added a stolen base.  Young, David Murphy, and Mitch Moreland each had 2 hits.  The Rangers totaled 12 hits on the night.  Moreland, Ian Kinsler, and Elvis Andrus each bunted to set up the late rally.

On the mound, starter Matt Harrison went 6 2/3 innings, striking out 8 but giving up a home run in the no-decision.  Darren Oliver is credited with the win after pitching to just one batter in the 9th.

The Rangers continue their homestand against the Blue Jays tonight at the Ballpark.
