SMU’s Marta Lesniak Ranked No. 10 In The Preseason Ranking

SKILLMAN, N.J. (SMU) – SMU Senior Marta Lesniak is No. 10 nationally in women’s tennis fall ranking, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this week. The native of Poland will also represent SMU at the All-American main draw event where she went 5-1 last fall while advancing to the Elite Eight.

Lesniak finished last season ranked No. 15 in singles and No. 57 in doubles. At the conclusion of the 2010 season she was named the National Player to Watch. Her other fall successes as a junior included winning the consolation singles bracket at the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, reaching the final in singles and doubles at ITA Regional and being named Conference USA Player of the Month three times. The native of Poland opened last spring ranked No. 2, which was the highest for a Mustang since Jennifer Santrock finished third in 1989. Lesniak was also named Conference USA Player of the Year and C-USA Singles and Doubles Player of the Championship with Alexandra Malyarchikova. She finished the 2010 spring season advancing to NCAA Singles Tournament for the third consecutive year and was named to the 2011 All-America Team.

SMU women’s tennis team went 23-6 in the regular season, finishing second in the C-USA Championship and reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time since 1988. The Mustangs begin the fall season at SFA Tournament in Nacogdoches, Texas, on Sept. 30.
