TCU Players Earn Big 12 Awards

TCU teammates Trevone Boykin and Paul Dawson, along with Baylor’s Terrell Burt were chosen Big 12 Football Players of the Week for October 4 games by a panel of media that cover the Conference. Boykin (offense) and Burt (special teams) were recognized for the second time in their career while Dawson (defense) picked up his first award.

Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

Trevone Boykin, TCU, QB, Jr, Dallas, Texas

Trevone Boykin totaled a career-high 395 yards of offense and two touchdowns in No. 25 TCU’s 37-33 win over No. 4 Oklahoma. He completed 20-of-38 passes for 318 yards and led the team with 77 yards rushing on 22 carries. The 318 yards passing marked his second-best effort of the season and third-best in his career. Boykin directed a TCU attack that totaled 469 yards of offense and scored more than 20 points for the first time in 14 games against the Sooners.

Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

Paul Dawson, TCU, LB, Sr, Dallas, Texas

Paul Dawson’s 41-yard interception return for a touchdown broke a fourth-quarter tie and

gave No. 25 TCU the lead for good in its 37-33 win over No. 4 Oklahoma. The senior linebacker totaled 11 tackles as the TCU defense limited OU to 152 yards rushing for a 3.6 average per carry.

Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week

Terrell Burt, Baylor, S, Jr, Wylie, Texas

Terrell Burt returned a blocked field goal 62 yards for his second career touchdown in No. 7 Baylor’s 28-7 win at Texas. Burt scooped up the ball at Baylor’s 38-yard line on Texas’ opening drive and gave the Bears a 7-0 lead they would never relinquish. He also had three tackles and two pass breakups from his safety position. Burt’s other touchdown came on a 63-yard interception return against Louisiana-Monroe in 2013.
