TCU Women Lose To Purdue

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – The TCU women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a second half 3-point barrage as its upset bid fell just short against No. 16 Purdue on Thursday evening by a score of 75-68 at Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center.
Natalie Ventress led the Horned Frogs (4-3) with 14 points off a 6-of-11 effort from the field, while Donielle Breaux and Chelsea Prince also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
TCU led the entire first half, building an advantage as large as seven points en route to a 34-33 halftime edge.
After connecting on only one 3-pointer in the first 20 minutes, Purdue (5-1) quickly found its stroke with two treys in the first five minutes to take a 40-36 advantage.
Ventress then rattled off six-straight points for the Frogs as TCU regained a 44-43 lead with 12:36 left in the contest.
Breaux connected on her second bucket from distance as the two teams switched the lead once again and senior center Latricia Lovings rolled in a layup as TCU stretched its advantage to 51-48 with 9:21 remaining.
With the two teams knotted up at 57 points following another Lovings layup, the Boilermakers connected on another 3-pointer, marking their sixth in seven tries in the second half, and followed with a pair of free throws to build a 62-57 lead with 5:37 left.
Prince would cut Purdue’s six-point lead in half with a 3-point bucket with just over four minutes remaining, but the Boilermakers would strike once again from 3-point land to put the
contest out of reach.
Lovings just missed a double-double performance with nine points and nine rebounds, while freshman center Klara Bradshaw also posted nine points in 21 minutes.
Medley posted eight points, all in the second half, while dishing out a team-best five assists against only one turnover.
The Frogs shot 47 percent (14-of-30) from the field in the second half for a 40-percent clip overall, while Purdue became the first team to shoot over 34 percent against TCU this season with a 45-percent (22-of-49) effort.
TCU turned the ball over just nine times while forcing 14 Purdue miscues, and dropped the battle on the glass by a 38-34 margin.
The Frogs will return home to play host to Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m., on Dec. 4 at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
