IRVING, Texas (SMU) — The No. 75 SMU women’s tennis team earned three wins in singles, but fell 4-3 to No. 55 Princeton on Sunday at the Las Colinas Country Club. No. 60 Edyta Cieplucha improved to 8-1 in dual matches with a win at No. 1 singles. Heather Steinbauer also scored for SMU at No. 3 singles and Ashley Turpin was victorious at No. 4.

Cieplucha won 6-0, 7-5 against Hillary Bartlett of Princeton at the top singles position. Cieplucha has won five straight at the top spot with her only loss this spring in three sets against 15th-ranked Mary Anne Macfarlane of Alabama. Steinbauer won her fourth straight by defeating Katherine Flanigan of Princeton 6-3, 6-3. Ashley Turpin improved to 2-2 on the season with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 triumph over Princeton’s Katie Goepel.

“We had a tough loss today against Princeton,” said Head Coach Kati Gyulai. “We started off strong in doubles but could not close the matches out to go up 1-0. We continued battling in singles but unfortunately came up short. We have been very competitive in all the matches we have played so far this season. We will continue working on capitalizing on our chances to win these matches.”

The Mustangs play at No. 9 Texas next Saturday.
