Allen Americans Advance To CHL Finals

Allen, Texas — The Allen Americans faced off against the Quad City Mallards in game seven of the President’s Cup Semi-Finals round. Through a hard fought matchup, Allen prevailed 3-2 sending them to the President’s Cup Finals for the second time in two years.

Like the game before, Allen jumped out to an early lead halfway through the first period. Jonathon Zion notched his first girl of the post season, a power play goal, assisted by Tyler Ludwig and Anthony Maiani.

Quad City answered back four minutes later at the 14:20 mark to tie the game 1-1. Jim McKenzie fired a shot past American goalie, Bryan Pitton, unassisted. Although tied in goals, Allen held a 15-8 edge on shots heading into the first intermission.

The Americans scored the lone goal of the second period when Jonathan Lessard lit the lamp, unassisted at the 8:27 mark of the middle frame, giving Allen a 2-1 lead. Quad City lead in shots during the frame, totaling 16 to Allen’s 13.

Allen returned from the second intermission and took a 3-1 lead

only 3:02 into the frame. Spencer Asuchak slid the puck past Mallard’s goalie Thomas Heemskerk, assisted by Alex Lavoie and Greger Hanson.

The Mallards closed in on Allen’s lead 1:18 later when Matt Boyd the pucl, assisted by Jim McKenzie and Nick Grasso. However, their effort fell short and Allen came away with a 3-2 victory sending them to the President’s Cup Finals.

Allen will travel to Colorado to take on the Denver Cutthroats to open the series on Friday at 7:00. Allen will be back at home for game three on Wednesday, May 7th.
