Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans defeated the Wichita Thunder by an 8-2 score on Friday night, improving to 26-5-1-2 and increasing their lead to 13 points over second place Wichita.

Kyle Follmer had his biggest night in an Americans sweater, scoring his first professional hat trick, and was only separated by an Aaron Gens goal from being a natural hat trick. The goals were his 2nd, 3rd and 4th of the season.

“It felt good,” said Follmer following the game. “Everyone played hard as a team and we earned this win. Getting the hat trick was special.”

Tyler Barr and Jesse Messier both picked up their first goals of the season, while Kevin Young added his 4th. Justin Baker (6) and Aaron Gens (5) also lit the lamp for Allen.

Gary Steffes added an assist on Kyle Follmer’s first of the night for his 200th career point. Steffes leads the Americans in goals with 21.

Wichita netminder Tyler Bunz gave up eight goals on 30 shots, taking the loss. The same two teams will play Saturday night at Allen Event Center at 7:05 pm.
