Allen Americans Stop Skid

Moline, IL – The Americans came into Friday night’s rematch against the Quad City Mallards looking to end a three game skid after falling on Wednesday night to the Mallards by a score of 5-2. Allen is currently tied for second in the Central Hockey League standings with the Missouri Mavericks, whom the Americans face on Saturday night when they close out their week long road trip.

Allen got on the board first when Brian McMillin backhanded a shot past Ty Rimmer in the Quad City net for his 3rd goal of the year at 2:31, assisted by Mike Berube and Garrett Klotz. Greger Hanson then scored on a rebound to net his 12th goal of the year, assisted by Daniel Tetrault at 4:45 to give Allen the 2-0 lead. Quad City answered back when Matt Duffy scored on the power play at 5:47, assisted by Vladimir Nikiforov and Jeff Lee to cut the Allen lead to 2-1. Quad City then knotted the score when Michael Monfredo scored on the power play at 19:09, assisted by Nicholas Rioux. At the first intermission, Quad City led in shots on net for the period by a 10-9 count with the score level at 2-2.

The Americans regained the lead on Daniel Tetrault’s 5th goal of the year, on the

power play, assisted by Jonathan Zion and Alex Lavoie at 8:38 of the second period. The Mallards again outshot the Americans 19-14 for the period and held the two period total at 29-23 but trailed Allen on the scoreboard 3-2.

Brian McMillin notched his second goal of the night and 4th goal of the season just 13 seconds into the final frame to extend the Americans lead to 4-2, assists on the McMillin marker went to Garrett Klotz and Jamie Schaafsma. Allen gained their biggest lead of the night on Alex Lavoie’s 21st goal of the year at 7:40, assisted by Greger Hanson. Quad City outshot Allen in the third period for a three period total of 42-34, but the Americans 5-2 lead was too much for the Mallards to overcome and Allen improved to 26-13-4 with the victory.

Allen concludes their road trip with a game against the Missouri Mavericks on Saturday night; the puck drop is scheduled for 7:05PM.
