Allen Americans Win CHL Championship

Allen, Texas — The Allen Americans defeated the Denver Cutthroats in Game Four of the President’s Cup Finals on Saturday night by a score of 5-2 at Allen Event Center. The Americans are the first CHL team to win back to back titles since the early 2000′s, and only the third in CHL history.

Denver got on the board first at the 9:21 mark of the first period when Kyle Fletcher found the back of the net, assisted by Cam Reid and Lee Moffie. Denver headed into the first intermission leading Allen 1-0 but Allen held an 11-10 edge on shots.

Allen broke the game open in second period, scoring four unanswered goals. Darryl Bootland started the scoring off by netting the puck at the 5:13 mark with the lone assist going to Kale Kerbashian. Five minutes later, at the 10:46 mark of the frame, Jamie Schaafsma lit the lamp, for the 10thtime this postseason, to give Allen a 2-1 lead. The goal was assisted by Daniel Tetrault and Jonathon Zion. Kale Kerbashian found the back of the net1:03 later on a breakaway pass fed to him by Jonathan Lessard to give Allen a 3-1 lead. Allen wasn’t done yet; Jonathan Lessard netted his third puck in

two nights to give Allen a 4-1 lead. The goal, his ninth of the season, was assisted by Anthony Maiani and Jonathan Zion. Allen headed into the second intermission holding their 4-1 lead as well as an edge on shots with 14-7.

Denver’s Lee Moffie found the back of the net with exactly one minute remaining in the game, assisted by Mikael Tam. Allen quickly netted the puck once against when Kale Kerbashian found the back of an empty net, with the assist going to Brian McMillin and Spencer Asuchak. With the goal, Allen took a 5-2 lead and solidified a President’s Cup Championship for the second year in a row.
