Allen Americans Win In OT

Allen, Texas — The Allen Americans and Arizona Sundogs faced off Monday afternoon at the Allen Event Center to conclude their weekend series. Allen saw a physical, 3-2 overtime victory over the Arizona.

The Americans jumped to an early lead when Garrett Klotz found the back of the net for the fifth time this season at the 9:12 mark of the first period, assisted by Brian McMillan. The Sundogs answered back at the 13:07 mark of the frame with a goal by Kevin Baker. The goal, his 13th of the season was assisted by Bryan Cameron and Justin Pender. Allen and Arizona headed into the first intermission tied 1-1 and tied 8-8 in shots on goal.

The physical second period remained scoreless and saw Arizona lead in shots with 10-7 over Allen. Both teams headed into the intermission still tied at 1-1.

Arizona forward Paul McIlveen lit the lamp at the 5:14 mark of the second period, assisted by Bryan Cameron and David Rutherford, giving the Sundogs a 2-1 lead over the Americans. Allen forward Phil Fox answered back with eight seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game 2-2 and send it into overtime. The goal, his 11th of the season, was assisted by Tyler Ludwig and Spencer Asuchak. Allen held a 10-5 edge on Arizona on shots on goal during the third frame.

Gregor Hanson netted the puck 1:09 into overtime to give the Americans a 3-2 win over the Sundogs. The goal, his 10th of the season, was assisted by Trevor Hendrikx.

With the win, Allen moves to 23-10-4 on the season while Arizona falls to 15-18-3. The Americans are back in action on Friday at the Allen Event Center when they take on the St. Charles Chill at 7:05.
